Anyone considered a 2AZ-FE engine

Its the engine in the TC, 160 hp and 165 ft/lb, and a supercharger from TRD can easily boost it to 200 hp. Now could anyone squeeze that sucker into the mr2? I cant think that it would be much more expensive than a 2zz from a wrecking yard. Just putting it out there for ideas, I'm not looking to switch out my 1zz anytime soon, just broke 20k miles after all.

2zz is a much better engine. No reason to go through all the hassle of trying out a new motor combo.

Plus with the turbo kits already made by a few users on here and the new Rotrex kit Web should have done soon, it would blow a S/C Tc out of the water. Hell I think my N/A 2zz will kill a S/C Tc.

My thoughts exactly. Now, figure out how to put a twin turbo inline 6 out of a supra in there.

"How do you want your MR2?"

"Supra Sized"...

Ok. That was funnier in my head.

2AZ might be a cool engine. I might try one some day.... What I'm really interested in is the tranny - should be MUCH stronger than the C series in the Spyders.

Now I need to take pic of my black Spyder next to my black Supra and sub-title it "What I want to be when I grow up"

I read on scionlife the 2az will bolt up to a 1zz/2zz tranny and again read that it won't. Also, the intake and exhaust manifolds are on opposite sides. Maybe that would make a SC SE(Super Easy). Maybe the engine and tranny together with custom half shafts. I know somebody who does spyder engine swaps that's thought about it, but if people keep being a PITA, he's gonna triple his prices, start working on lotus's and tell spyderchat to get f'ed.

I drove my tC out to a spyder meet several months ago. One of the guys backed his spyder up and we both popped our hoods to have a good look at it. And (I know this isn't much help) I can't exactly remember all the details, but we both came to the conclusion that it would be a rather difficult swap. Besides, there's so many options for the spyder as it is. The 2AZ-FE really isn't that much better.

Edit: Plus the S/C for the tC sucks. They've been having a lot of issues with it including broken brackets and oil leaks. The gains from it arn't all that impressive either. The whole rotrex project that Web 3.0 is working with is a much better idea.

I was just thinking about it, beacuse the one (and apparently only complaint) Ive read about the 2zz is that its got no torque untill you hit the upper reaches of the rpm range, the TC engine looks like it has a good deal more grunt, and with a blower on it it would proibly make our light little cars quick as sin...

Yup, the blower does make the car quick as sin. But you sure don't need an engine swap...the 1zz does just fine.

With a blower on the stock 2zz the car is quick as sin. However, the bigger displacement would eventually mean more power, but for the price of swapping in the 2AZ engine/transmission, custom turbo/sc it and probably upgrading the internals you could build a serious turbo 2zz.

dman™, xbiker beat me to it.

I will engineer this swap eventually. This is the last year for the zz series engines so availability will eventually become a challenge. The 2az on the other hand..... Well nearly EVERYTHING with a 4 cylinder that toyota makes will be getting a 2az. Rumor has it a dual vvt-i version is in the works too.

There is something brown on your nose, here is tissue paper, clean yourself up.

Our cars need revs, not low end grunt.

Given the way I drive, and how I use the powerband, I think the bigger displacement will make for a better swap. Lots of grunt down low would be pretty cool and just a tad more room up top and I am happy. Plus, as LR said, if toyota is putting it in everything then the price would be comprable to that of our 1zz. I think $500 on an engine is much better than $3k.

Yup, give me a massaged 2AZ with a nice torque curve and a little head room up top with a six speed, and keep the swap cost aroung $3k and I'll be signing up!

2az's w/ transmission are going for $900 on ebay. Hydra makes an EMS although its kinda cost prohibitive at $1700. I think a big torque pig like this with a roots style blower would be pretty cool. I've noticed most of the current scion SC kits are centrifugal though.

I think it'd also make a hell of a drivetrain for a tube chassis car. 160 hp/ft-lbs could make 1000lbs move.
