I have searched but did not find anything on how to adjust the brake light switch. Has anyone done this that could help? I am not sure if it is working or not, but I cannot take it off. I took off the electrical connection and then it just spins loosely clockwise and counterclockwise. It does not come off either way. Is something horribly wrong? Any comments would be appreciated.

"Spinning loosely" makes it sound like a jamb nut is missing from the switch's mount.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I found out the problem, the threads on the switch somehow separated from the switch. The fat part of the switch would spin loosely without affecting the threads which were staying put.
