well, it is time to take my entire car apart...including: sideskirts, front bumper, back bumper, front panals, and rear panals.

i figure i will put the whole job on here, from start to finish. ill take as many pics as i can along the way.

the reason for this is to have one place i can go to for any advise, or questions. i have done most of this before, but on wrecked spyders that i could just bend or cut things that were in my way. i cant do this now, so i may run into some things, i dont know.

plus, i will give some people something else to follow....lol.

here are a couple of pics i took, i guess i will just add all pics to this first post to keep them all together.

here is the kit after i got it off...still looks great!

and the rear

i figure i will point out how i took everything apart...help people in the future....

headlights removal..

two bolts in the top
Image

one bolt on the bottom back side
Image

then it is just a clip, pull forward and it will pop out.
Image

fender removal..all bolts are 10mm

bolt in front corner
Image

open door and there is another bolt at top
Image

under the plastic around bottom of windshild there is a bolt..plastic clip holds the plastic piece down
Image

under the car, by the tire, there are two bolts
Image

take the wheelwell plastic out by taking plastic clips out.
then you will see another plastic piece if you look inside the fender at the door. one plastic clip holds it in...take the plastic piece out, and you will see a bolt behind there.

Image

then there is one last bolt in the front corner
Image

you can take these out in any order you want

then you have this

well, i am stumped on the rear fender. i know there are some bolts to take off from the inside under the top flaps, but i cant seem to find the right ones...anyone who can make me find the right bolts, ill dance at your next wedding!!!

oh, and optimus, it is not a bad idea at all (black)!! the only issue i have with that is, time. if i did do as color change, i would want to strip it all the way down to nothing and do it right. that is just more work than i want to do right now. i have another build going on at the same time as this one and it will be black (from another color).

Paul, if my Apr fenders mount the same locations, ill snap you a pic. Which area are you looking at? Front, rear, top, or bottom of the rear fender?[/b]
it is along the top. i have removed the ones at the top along the engine, and the one under the piece that comes off for the ht install, and all the other...just need the one that goes right along the top where the rubber is.

i am going to go up to the shop where i helped them take the top off that other spyder, i hope they dont have it back together yet.

any pics would be great!!

ya, this will be it for awhile. i am going to take the rollbar off tomorrow (getting ready for the h.t.), then monday it is off to arazona. 3000 miles and 50 hrs of driving later, i will be back home with the new kit. then there will be much fiberglass work to be done. i figure i will get that done by the next time i come home. then paint it, and install, put the h.t. on, and time to see what it looks like.

i think i am going to wait on the motor install for now. with all the time i am going to have to spend on the kit, it wont leave much time for the motor. i may let l.r. do that, i have not decided yet.

i am trying to get it done before the begining of october, that is when i have cruisin' the coast. i would like to take it to that.

anyway, i will add pics along this journey!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but these are NOT welds, they snap off like a button, no need to drill them out. Looking good Paul, just want to save someone using this post as a reference so they don't make the same mistake.[/b]
it is a spot weld, it does need to be drilled, there is no snap. if you try to pull on it, you will tear something under the bracket. it is not the top that tore, something that is made up to the inside of the car, i could see it but could not tell what it was.

i know because i tried...lol. it will not come off without drilling, or if you could get something in between the bracket and the fender, you might be able to break the weld by prying it. drilling the hole is easy, and it will be covered by the plastic weather strip anyway, so it will not be seen when you reinstall it. silversprint says he does not even put a rivit back in it when he installs the fender, and it does fine. it will still be tucked under the weather strip, and it is well bolted all around that area.

Does this mean anyone who is the "Spyder of the Month" must completely redo their car? Please Don DON'T pick me!

Hello Paul Price,
Where do you have those rear jack stands placed?
Could you snap a pic for clarification?
Thank you for your time, Lboy.

Holy Carp Paul! This thread is fast becoming a treasure trove of information! Please, please keep posting visuals of your progress.

I have no plans of doing a project remotely like this, but I can already see some of this being useful in the future!

I guess since my car is getting all new paint and the 2003+ stage 1 body kit I should get in line.

Is it OK to only put a temporary picture up? Right now the car doesn't even have sheet metal on the front.[/b]
I have the same, temporary pic.
