Cargo Carrier on MR2. Has this been done before?

I know the MR2 has a rear hood rack which clamps (or bolts) on, but I was wondering if anyone has every modded a cargo carrier to work on the mr2 spyder. I mean the type which normally attach to the towing point on a larger car. I've seen a few people modify bike racks to attach to the rear tow hooks on the spyder, and I

was curious as to whether or not someone has tried to attach one of these cargo carriers: Automotive luggage rack Bicycle front and rear rack Automotive carrying rack Automotive exterior Kitchen appliance

I'd love to do the fabrication myself, but I have neither the tools nor the expertise. I guess if I have time I'll take a welding class haha. Right now I guess I'll look at the bike rack setup more carefully. In my personal opinion, one of these cargo carriers with a fly case strapped on would look very good.

It would be nice if we could find a way to securely attach a towing point to the Spyder like most SUVs have. Even some two-seater BMWs have one.

EDIT
I actually found a picture of exactly what I was thinking of:

Anybody know this PaulShibbs guy so that I can ask him how he did it and where he got the parts?

That's me. Rack came from Harbor Freight or Northern Tool, I forget. The bumper/hitch is made from mild steel square tube. I think I posted most of the details. I can probably find the post.

Here's the link. http://www.spyderchat.com/forums/showthread.php?47354-FS-Rods-for-trailer-hitch-or-bike-rack&p=785637&viewfull=1#post785637

Also, another forum member (Artech) is getting close to manufacturing some gorgeous stainless steel bumpers. Unless you're a skilled fabricator, his will look MUCH nicer than what I made up.

I had actually found your posts and artech's on the subject last night and was about to ask the moderators to delete my post haha.
by the way, sweet car and alma mater. :icon_wink:
I can see how you were able to do the deflection calculations (young's modulus, right?) on the other post about manufacturing a hitch for the spyder.
anyways, have you had any problmes with bending the frame of the car? I know that was a concern on a few of the other posts. I'm trying to find the lightest cago carrier I can, just in case I decide to go through with this mod.
