Sooo.. I recently replaced the convertible top on my 2000 Spyder. What an ordeal that was. I purchased a new top (top end fabric from Sierra Tops (Autotopsdirect.com) on Amazon. The top is magnificent and beautiful but came without even a shipping document saying what I'd purchased (for $649)...I decided to install it myself instead of paying a local installer $1200. That was a blessing and a curse, because it was a B*TCH!! Good news is, I did it, and I learned a LOT about the car in the process! While I had the whole thing torn out, I took advantage of the opportunity to run some wiring from front to back on my front/rear cameras for my stereo head unit as well as a very loud horn to replace the "prius-class" horn that came stock... Onward to the top replacement... As much of a PITA as it was, I'm very glad I did it myself, as I learned everything needed to know about the mechanism of the top, and how to best maintain it. And... the new top looks AMAZING on it! In retrospect, I would pay the $1200 for professional install if I had such funds laying around, but I was able to do it myself, and I'm glad I did. If you replace your top, make sure you take LOTS of photos as you disassemble it, and pay the cost of getting the best quality replacement available! My original top was 19 years old, and I expect my replacement top to outlast ME.
