Last week the engine bay for my 2001 mr2 wouldn't open after a long drive. I waited about an hour and at that point had no trouble opening it. It looks like the release cable has stretches over the years and now when hot expands far enough to not fully engage the latch. Has anyone else had this kind of problem our advice for a fix?

I installed a brand new cable and continued to have the same issue. When I put it away this winter I'll fix the issue with suggestions found in other treads.

Just cut some washers, place over the cable between the stop. Bend washers flat again and that will take up the excess. Mine works perfect. Also make sure that the rubber body stops are aligned.

There was a service memo and apparently an upgrade to the latch assembly at some time, I got a new latch, cables and had them put in this spring.
