So I recently got a Spyder which suffered the fatal precat failure. The cylinders were scratched and ceramic dust was everywhere.. I just finished swapping in another 1zz engine and gutted my old precats. I’m buying a new catalytic converter tomorrow, but I’m wondering if the old muffler is okay to use, I’m worried about getting ceramic dust from the precats back in the engine from the exhaust, and would the catalytic converter need to be replaced too?

Oh, and I was also debating driving around with just a downpipe/exhaust manifold for a while while I fix the exhaust, would this be unsafe for the motor?

Why don't you wait until the exhaust is completely fixed before driving. IMHO it is unsound to drive without the muffler for many reasons.
