First post & some questions

Hey guys, i've been browsing spyderchat for a while looking at different threads related to appearance and performance in terms of what i plan to do to my spyder. Right now i'm looking into buying a used 03 spyder, but before i do i have some questions in regards to potential problems i may run into after buying/ modifying the car.

1. Gutting the pre cats. Rather play it safe than sorry by protecting my engine with this mod. I have a question in regards to emissions. I've read that it should pass emissions (USA, in California) once the car is warmed up and the cat is warm, but I live in Australia (NSW) and most likely the emissions standards are different. Are there any Aussies on this forum I can contact in regards to this question? Hopefully they have the same mod done on their car.

2. Che lotus style exhaust. I really love the way this exhaust sounds compared to the other ones on the market. I'm wondering if anyone knows what the dB output of the exhaust is (say if you have a CAI/ pod, gutted precats and the exhaust). Does anyone know? Or should I just contact Che directly asking him this? (I've read he's renowned for exceptional customer service)

Hmm... that's probably about it for now... You can expect to see pics and some new threads from me in a couple of months when I actually buy the car ;).

Cheers guys!

PS. hope I've placed this thread in the right forum section.

In Australia we dont have any emission law, as long as you have a main cat your fine, chances are if any cops pull you up they won't even know what a spyder is.
i gutted my precats 3 years ago and ran a gutted header for 6 months before getting a che header, but i ran into issues with my flexi joints leaking and upgraded the entire exhaust system to the PPE set-up

There are two versions of the CHE lotus style
i got the lotus style single canister version and when i was running that with a che header and K&N kit it was quite loud (unknown db), if you want the lotus style, but want it quieter get the dual canister version

Shoot me a PM if you got anymore questions

umm apart from that welcome to spyderchat:welcome:
from my years of browsing it seems the che dual canister is one of the quieter aftermarket exhausts. Note: of course it's louder than stock exhaust.

Yeah: welcome!

With only a K&N filter in the stock air box, the dual-can Che Lotus exhaust on my Spyder is just a bit louder than stock and no where near loud enough to be annoying or obnoxious.

Awesome, thanks so much! Yeah, I really like the sound of the dual canister version, the single is loud and a tad obnoxious. Great reply, thanks again. :)

Hows the spyder scene in NSW?
I'll be sure to send you a PM if I have any Aus specific questions in the future.

Sweet, sounds like I can get the exhaust ASAP when I get the car :). Thanks for the reply!
Yeah the single is loud but now it is insane since i put the ppe headers on, my lotus style muffler decided to make itself hollow so the muffler dont work very well now:lol:

There are a few spyders for sale in NSW and were i live in near campbelltown there are another 3, one yellow the other 2 are black all 3 are 00-02
i rarely see them thou only seen the 2 black ones once, the yellow one lives near me as i see it maybe once every few months
With gutted pre cats colorado emissions testing passed with flying colors

looking at the white one in bossley park (15k on carsales). dont know why its so ridiculously low for an 03, but gonna be checking out the other more expensive 03+ models to get an idea of what a 'better condition' car should be. i really hope a black 03 comes on the market soon with a reasonable price, id snatch that up for sure.
