As Garrett GT28RS is very popular among Spyders, i was just wondering if anybody here has upgraded to the newer version? It would be nice to hear opinions or experiences.
The manufacturer promises 10-20% more..

Here is comparison of maps (GT2860RS vs GTX2863)

The Turbo JUST now came out.

But yeah, if you have a 1ZZ an no intention of ever going north of mid 200s, this would be a fantastic Turbo choice.

That is my intention, but not in the near future. What i have learned from the other forums, that seems very good alternative for the GT28RS. You can even upgrade your old GT28RS for only 300 USD (+labour), here is a link: http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchan...tp&Product_Code=GRT-TBO-200&Category_Code=GTX

It is for engines from 250 to 420 hp (engine horsepower).

It is supposed to output same hp&tq as GT3071R but spools like GT28RS.

Actually that new GTX28 is a 425+HP capable turbo with the spool of a GT28. I would be a good choice for mid 200s, but also mid 300s ;)

:) Yes, that's right.. I was just editing my earlier post regarding the horsepower figure.
Garrett itself says it'll produce something like 250-430 hp region.

Here is the proof

However, i think, the HP figure is huge for a such a small car that we have - and GTX would give 70 hp (in it's maximum) more than good old GT28RS is able to deliver.

The compressor map linked from atp is not very telling. It doesn't show the actual islands and efficiency ratings.

http://www.google.com/imgres?q=GTX2...0&tbnw=114&start=0&ndsp=32&ved=1t:429,r:4,s:0

This photo show's the actual maps.

Peak efficiency on the new turbo comp map is showing to run from 8psi @ 20lbs/min to 19 psi @ 30lbs/min

The nice difference between the two is that you are still at 70% efficiency north of 30 psi on the GTX.

Having said that, I see most folks sitting around 200-250 whp with this turbo being happy.

GTX2863R will make a bit more power than a GT2860RS but as you can see on the compressor map its biggest strength is running higher boost levels, not higher flow rates. Might be a good match on a 1zz but on a 2zz you need a bit more flow than that. That's why 2zz's make so much more power on bigger turbos.

Edit: not that it won't work well on a 2zz. We see around 335whp on a standard GT2860RS with a mild built 2zz. That's all the turbo's got though.
