BY the way,

BUTTERMOO..... JUST IN CASE... if your SPYDER is not a daily driver for work.... you can save some money by joining an insurance company named GRUNDY'S CLASSIC CAR INSURANCE...... i was paying 1200.00 a year to Allstate, made the change to GRUNDY'S for 220.00 a "year", i insured mine for $15,000.00..... just trying to help !!!
Question on that Grundy's policy. How do they know if you are daily driving it or not? Assuming it has a cap on how many miles you can put on it? What's your mile limit?

Classic cars policies usually have a mileage limit that is rather confining. You can't cheat on it, because if you ask them to pay, they can ask to look at the odometer, and then you would be SOL. There are often also requirements that you must have garaged off-street parking, and that you maintain a second running car.

I just looked at Grundy's and here is what they say about miles. Looks pretty interesting. I am going to get a home policy quote and MR2 quote.

Let me know what you find out. I certainly qualify and would like that kind of savings since my car is purely recreational. The problem is I have all sorts compounding discounts with my provider both for millage and combining cars and home insurance.
I am afraid if I remove my car from the plan it could work against any savings.

I have the home and auto bundled quote too from Allstate with the discounts. Grundys does home policies too. i'm going to get a quote for my home and the Spyder to see how it compares. Let ya know.

I use classic car insurance for all my summer vehicles. They must be garage parked regularly, mileage limit is 8000km/year which is more than enough for me (they can give you more if you ask on a case by case basis) and you need to have another regularly insured car as a DD. Also no driving in inclement weather (snow here 6mos/year) and nobody under 25 can ever drive the car unless they are individually insured (like a car lot attendant or similar).

It is incredibly cost effective. I pay less for 4 cars including a 2018 Porsche Cayman S than I do for my 2016 outback which is a DD. I think the MR2 is around 200 usd/year

Also the cars are insured for their appraised value. An appraisal is required of course but it's a one time thing and updating it is inexpensive.

I insure 5 vehicles total, had all five with Allstate.....i removed the 2001 SPYDER MR2 , and went to GRUNDY'S...FOR 220.00 YR.. I also removed a 1997 HONDA CR-V, I am restoring, GRUNDY'S would not insure the CR-V, but HARGITY'S INSURANCE did cover the CR-V for 350.00 per year..... savings on both vehicle changes was approx 1600.00-1700.00 per year.... that's a lot of beer !!

I simply wanted flames lmfao. That was stupid of me I admit.
Thats fine. Good to have down to earth response.
Don't worry about the harsh responses. Most of them are from people that are taking out their frustrations vicariously though your experience because most of us have been had at some point in our life and its kind of PTSD to see it happen to someone else.
Learn to wrench, it will save you thousands.

Dev... in my situation with Allstate, i had the five cars and the house with Allstate, i called them to discuss the dropping of the 5 cars and keeping only the house insured.... they said it was fine to drop the coverage on the cars, and only keep the house with them, to penalize me, my house went from around 1800.00 to 2350.00 per year... i insured 3 cars with farmers, one with Grundy's ( MR2 SPYDER) AND Hargity's (97 HONDA CR-V )....... AFTER THE SMOKE CLEARED WITH ALL THESE CHANGES, in ended saving me about 1400.00 per year..... it was a pain, but to me it was worth it to save the $$$$....

I am with State Farm. I only have two cars now so it changes the dynamic and probably not as much advantage unless I have more cars. I will probably call my insurer and let them know my situation only to see if they would try come reasonably closer so I have the convince of one umbrella. When I was leaving Geico they were willing to deal but at that point I have already committed so I left. They have already given me a generous discount on the Spyder since its millage based but Grundy's is still much better.
The best thing I did for my car was qualifying for Historic tags where my registration is only $25 for the whole year and no more emission inspection which is further savings.

I daily it unless of course it’s broken. And I’ve already got an insurance bonus through my parents. The problem isn’t insurance it’s maintenance.
