* bought a rear clip w/ JDM C65 trans? ratios / lsd ?

looking at buying a jdm swap with "C65" manual 6speed trans, not listed on c tranny wiki aside from smt C65M I assume ratios are the same? plan on swapping into my vibe GT and using its 2zz so the longer ratios should suit the tow vehicle just fine

Need to know if the car is sequential or manual. If it's sequential then it's much harder to swap. I would skip the sequential.

In Japan and Europe the spyder had a 6 speed manual that never was offered in the US. It's not the same as the celica/Vibe C60. It's more of a regular spyder trans with a 6th gear added.

no not sequential thats what im curious about i see record of c65(m) - sequential
but no info on c65(manual)

If you're planning to 2zz with a c65(m) you're gonna bog yer low end a bit. I'd go with the 60 if it's an option.

ok so regardless its a 6 speed with some sort of ratios that are not c60 and found a good cond rear clip and bought it

so far very good seller answered questions very helpful, no more spyder stuff atm but lots of 2jz and 3sgtes mr2 turbo and st185/205/215 so far recommend him

had been looking at another similar clip but needed to be shipped from hong kong guy agreed to $2400 shipped but import fees ontop of $500+ and no usable bodywork

is the C65 6th gear taller than the C60 6th gear???

the C60 6th gear feels like a regular stock 5th gear cruising on the highway <_<

It's still quite possibly an SMT tranny missing the designation. You may be able to recover some of your costs from parting the SMT parts out. (ECU, TCU, GSU, HPU). Still probably gonna have to buy a 6 speed shifter and cables though. I just hope for your sake that the 65 has mounting points for manual pieces, it should, looks like most of the casing pieces are interchangeable, might have to drill and tap the clutch cylinder mount. Including the engine and if it is an SMT you might completely recover your cost and end up with a free tranny.

So am still researching... If I get a 04 MR2 6 speed from Europe that has LSD... Is it straight bolt into my 01 5 speed manual? I read on the celica/matrix having to do shaft mod or sent to monkey... Huge parts list I need or able to use all my 5mt stuff?

THe 6 speed euro/jdm mr2 tranny has the correct shifter setup and reverse lockout just as a mwr conversion can make a fwd us tranny, I currently have a C60 from a vibe converted for my spyder(shifts from front of tranny needs 2 holes drilled for shifter arm) and a celica gts C60 in my vibe GT( shifts from back of tranny, holes predrilled for shift cable bracket

It fits without any mods to 04 MR2. Make sure you order a manual and not SMT.

On a celica it would need a shaft mod and their speed sensor would not work because the celica has the speed sensor in the trans but the MR2 has it in the hubs.

C65 is the 6-speed manual that came with the Spyder, usually in Japan. It has the same gear ratios as the C65m in the SMTs here in the US. C65-01B has the factory HLSD. C65-01A has an open diff. JSpec in Ashland, VA, has a JDM 1ZZ-FE with C65-01A, and they had the white MR-S clip you (Bad Vibe) bought. I looked at the 1ZZ-FE with C65-01A manual tranny in person a couple weeks ago because Chris initially thought it had the HLSD (i.e. 01B ). Since it was just the engine/tranny, he didn't have the VIN plate for info. After taking out the transaxles, there was a small bar visible in the hole, which indicates an open diff. I went with a friend who bought a bunch of MK1/MK2 MR2 stuff, so it wasn't a big deal.

Silversprint is correct. It fits in with no mods necessary. I have it myself and I am glad I chose it rather than replacing with another 5 speed. I drops the highway cruising significantly and the lsd is so nice. I also believe it was called the C63 for the manual.

Thanks guys! Yeah am keeping my 1zz and just want to drop my rpms, can't go wrong with better cruising gas milage even though it might not be much.

What's better for DD or reliability? UK LSD mr2 6speeed or 04 celica US 6 speed? Debate Debate, anyone? I'm kind of stuck on swapping this and that on the celica when the mr2 is P&P.

Assume you're talking about an 03+ UK 6MT. And assuming that neither tranny has any internal problems, the Celica 6MT won't have the LSD nor the 3.941 FD that the UK tranny has. That should be a no-brainer. But for DD or reliability, a coin toss.

picked this up last month but just read the responses confirming that the -01b is lsd so thats a relief

heres my new half baby




now im contemplating what tranny goes where and if its worth it to take the c65 lsd out put it in my c60 and put that and my 2zz in the spyder

and then put the longer ratio c65 sans lsd with the 1zz back in my vibe for better economy and light towing

eventually want to make remainder of rear clip into a MR-S trailer if i dont get broke and desperate enough to sell out all the lights and body work
