Momentary Power loss at freeway speeds

Any idea? For about a month now I'll be on the freeway doing about 70 mph and after about 15 miles, I will get a momentary loss, almost like taking my foot off the gas, or similar to the momentary hesitation when you push the clutch in.... I usually get it once on the way to work and once on the way home. Not really a deceleration, just like a momentary RPM loss, but its so quick I cant catch it to see if the RPM's actually drop.

It had the shortblock replaced at 60k (PO), It's got 73k now and I'm about to take it in for an oil change and I want to get the pre-cat inspected before it reaches the 80k mile federal emissions warranty cut off.

I'll bring it up to the mechanic, just wondering if there were any similars?

Its a programmed behavior called "Decel fuel-cut".
It happens frequently when your driving like its a Buick Century.

The "problem" will go away if you use the stupid pedal like its meant to be used, stupidly.

1. Clean the MAF
AND unrelated to your "problem" but likely the reason the PO sold it.
2. Gut the pre-cats.

This happens to me everyday at the same place - going down a hill and letting up on the right pedal.

I always wondered what it was, but since it happens every day, I figured that it was normal.

Yep. Completely norbal™. (We don't use that word you used here.)[/b]
That word is only used at the bus station™

This last tank full of gas the engine and acceleration has felt a little rougher, and I just read about how to clean the MAF (going to do that today). Everyone has got me freaked out about the pre-cat issue and that was the first thing I thought of (been reading the horror stories in the thread "a documented case of pre-cat failure"), that maybe something was getting blocked...Im not all that mechanical... I've put a little over 3k on the engine since I bought it from the PO (he had it serviced before I bought it)and the engine oil is still clean and hasn't lost anything. I was hyper sensitive to everything when I was driving to see if I could catch any oddities after just buying it, and the power loss issue was recent.

My wife caught me writing this and asked "you should ask people what that alarm sound is from the engine compartment, you know, that beeping noise".... I told her it's one of two things:

1. You are not going fast enough (someone is honking at you)
2. Blonde in red convertible= honk and get phone number

She swears there is a "beep" coming from the engine area.... oh wait, did I mention she was blonde????

thanks,

So I cleaned the MAF (yep, they sell that MAF cleaner at Kragens/Grand Auto...$5.99 still smells like carb cleaner to me...), changed the air filter (thanks SC, only took 10 minutes), added some fuel injector cleaner and gave it a wash and wax...took it for a spin around the block and I did notice things running smoother... Ill have to wait for the freeway test in a few days.

WOW trick photography...it looks longer....

I figured it out.
The problems you were describing, both power loss on the freeway, and the beeping...
Caused by wind turbulence in the keyhole. See Dev for a cure for that.

OK, Dev, how many more of these do I gotta do before I get a free set?

Hey, Dumbo ears and Jumbo frunk gap, all the rage. I'm leading the pack!
The Dumbo ears act as a BFW™ and the frunk gap acts as an air dam!
