We had a race meeting this weekend where cars compete against each other in 4 different sessions, with 5 counting towards points (not a mistake - I will explain).

The 1st session is a 1km run, where both the top speed and ET counts.
2nd was a gymkana
3rd an autocross
4th = 400m runs

The organisers awarded points on a class and overall basis. As I did the fastest time overall in the gymkana as well as the autocross, and also did very well in my class in the other sessions, I won the day overall.

Thumbs up for a normally aspirated MR2 with 2ZZ engine.

The car has ITB's, dry sump, and some aftermarket body parts (mainly used on the long circuit).

Here are some videos - I will place some more once I edited it. Remember that we are 6,500ft above sea level and lose around 18% power - consider it when you compare times with sea level times.

Paulo's Lexus 1km run doing 291 kph. This car was expected to do well over 300kph. The record in South Africa presently stands at 323 kph with a turbocharged Lotus Exige Motorsport (Honda engined:angry:)

Paulo's 400m run where his engine went kaboom big time.

Manny Ribeiro's gymkhana run (with Lotus 7 - he was my big competition in our class. He runs a 2l Ztec engine in this car which weighs a mere 540kg's)

Willie de Beer's gymkhana run with his Lotus Exige with 2ZZ turbo. He was last year's overall winner.

Andre Conradie's 1km run with the Supra. This was the fastest backed up top end speed of 289 kph

My friend Gert's Ultima top end run. The car's 1st gear is too strong and he pulled off in 2nd. This car now has my old cobra's engine which still holds several national records (a N/A 7l Chevy with Kinsler ITB's etc).

The organisers asked me to do a demo run against another fast car, and I decided to take my friends Ultima GTR.

The Ultima unfortunately broke down with clutch problems which is a pity as the video will show. The MR2 kept up well and only started losing ground in the more straight areas.

This video shows a comparison of the 2 runs

Yep, it is the mantra that you hear repeated at just about any event attended. It is just really illustrated in the videos you posted. Should be shown in a classroom.

How much of a difference do the ITBs make?
A lot in the midrange. We made the trumpet and runner length to assist in mid to upper range, and did not benefit from a higher rev range. The headers were done similarly. So the whole system was made to operate between 5,000 and 7,500 rpm.

I also added a 2nd set of injectors outside the trumpet which did assist on higher rpm (added around 8kw at the top)

Very nicely done!

Do you have any pics of the itb set-up and did you modify the firewall to fit them?

Also, what front lip is that, it looks great on your car.

Yes I did modify the firewall. I made a box with insulation which now is where the soft top used to be. Herewith some photos.

It is custom
We are busy modifying the ITB runners right now - you can see what we are doing here http://www.track-tv.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=17

I read through the article on the link you posted, good stuff.

I saw your issue with the flange shrinking after heat treating, what grade aluminum did you use for the flange?

I have noticed quite a bit of that with the softer alloys when exposed to too much heat.

A note on the lip, could you be inclined to make a copy? Lol
