Hey everyone,

I recently purchased a Spyder, I bought it after another engine was put into it (didnt break due to pre-cats) but the pre-cats were not removed from the new engine as well as I'm pretty sure it was a bad install job. (have found some missing bolts here and there, and a missing stud on the exhaust manifold) Unfortunatly its been having a fair amount issues lately, Its been having a new issue about every week as well as it has my main cat plugging up, I've ordered the CHE header to resolve that issue, going to take a peek today to see if I will need another engine, if so I'm going to put the 2zz in.

I have put a new sound system in, 7.5" kickers in the door, 10" kicker sub, new deck, I'll snap some picks in a moment, the guy did a great job on the install (Best Buy)

Welcome, you`ve definately got the best color to have for a spyder. That`s quite a drop to the ditch, hope nobody got hurt.

No injuries, except my front bumper. I went in so slowly, was only going about 15mph, when I shifted the back wheels broke loose and my back end kicked out, I bounced off the berm and that cause the back end to totally kick out (sideways) and I just got sucked in. It didn't even jolt my car when I hit the bottom.

It is my understanding that if I put the Che header on, I will have a catless car, in which case my main cat can't be plugging up , already have an aftermarket downpipe, and yeah, I am aware that the che header is for 1zz. If I need a new motor, so be it, I am prepared to buy a new header.

Well, welcome. Between the ditch and the Cat confusion, you're off to a bit of a bumpy start, but at least you got the right color.

Glad no one (car included) was hurt. I'm guessing your airbag didn't go off?

There are 3 cat's in the car. There are 2 pre-cats in the exhaust manifold. The main cat is in the midpipe, below the manifold. If you replace the manifold with a Che header, you will still have a main cat. So you won't be catless, but you'll get the right result. Oldman is right, the Che Header will not work with the 2zz, should you decide to do a swap. I'm undecided as to whether I'll do a 2zz, turbo, or just boltons and call it a day. Depends more on budget than anything. So I bought a Che header, as it's not a terribly large investment.

Which, unfortunately doesn't work with a 1zz either.

wouldn't it be less expensive to gut the precats, delete the main cat, and then see how the car runs before expending funds?

For the shift knob look at getting one from a 7th gen celica. You can get them in leather for only 32 bucks from the dealer. That's how much I paid for mine atleast but I get employee discount which is cost plus 10%.

Thanks everyone, and don't worry, I will do my best to keep it out of the ditch, but I do so enjoy the spyder in the snow, it is just as good as my old grand prix but WAY more fun. I have a pro set of studs on the car atm, still snowing off and on so I don't want to put the z-rated tires on it yet.

As for the Che Header, I have no problem that if I were to swap motors, just mailing it to someone else on here that could use it. I have a job to buy toys. This was my latest toy, I bought it for 6k plus I traded my old grand prix for it. Since I've had it I've spend over 1.5k in repairs, 200 for the tow out of the ditch, 800 for the stereo, and plan to keep dumping money into it. This is the first fun car I've had, I plan to make it even more fun. It was either I buy this or spend 20k on a new car, so even with repairs and possibly helping out another member I am still WAY below that 20k. And I already have an aftermarket exhaust so I don't have a rear cat, and I don't have to worry about emissions in the great state of Idaho!

Welcome glad to hear of a fellow spyder owner in idaho you should come down to boise for some auto x events i will be running my spyder all year long. I have a turbo kit for sale .. ps we could do the install at my shop i work for just an idea if ya want more power. A little bit of back story, it was in the mountains, the road was graveled, I went up in the morning. It rained during the day, after it stopped I was going back into town to go to work, the rain froze OVER the gravel to make a sheet of ice, I fell 3 times walking down the road to find service. Was late for work, messed up my car, had to pay for the tow... Lets just say that wasn't a good day... xD

I got my new header in as well as a short throw shifter, its running fantastic, for the moment. I bought my new wheels today, gotta wait for them to get here as well as stop snowing before I take the studs off.

I am thinking about getting http://www.twmshiftknobs.com/shiftknobs/type-r-shiftknobs.html and having it wrapped in leather along with having the shift boot, ebrake, and ebrake boot done. Anyone know of another shift knob? I have been looking for the past few days, NRG seems to be the closest but I don't like the "bump" from the plastic on the top, think it will look weird wrapped.

fun in snow and ice!

We took our spyder out on the lake last year, and we're oh so glad we did. We played around quite a bit, getting a good feel for the car and how it handles in those conditions. That experience helped to avoid what could have been a really bad accident a couple months later on a road trip from Montana to Tacoma. Hit a patch of fresh nasty winter conditions going through Spokane and the car started to spin around, but because of the new-found feel for the car in such conditions we quickly got it back under control, just barely missing the concrete k-rails. No accident, no injuries and no damage to the whip! *whew!
