Is is it possible to leave the large plastic cover installed (removing the plastic right above the struts) but just remove the hinged storage cover? I want the frunk to look as clean and stock as possible.

There are several threads on the board (somewhere) that details how people cut the plastic, and their attempts to retain the cover.
It takes some creative thinking but it can be done.
