great write up!

but last i checked, the headlight lenses that tend to fog/blur up with sun exposure and time, are in fact available independently, without having to buy the entire headlight unit. Toyota dealer sells them for about $140ish, you can source them online for a few bucks cheaper last i checked

Hello all!
I'm a noob.

I did a search for guide & found this. Thank you!

I've done Test Drives in 2 Spyders in the last 2 days & doing a 3rd today.

So far, I've driven an '01 w/ 65K miles, an '03 w/ 95K and today is an '00 w/ 115K.

This write-up has proven to be quite benificial!
I've also ODB scanned them & they did not show any codes.

My last 3 cars have been of a FR lay-out & I've become a DIYer. They have been fun to AutoX & I look forward to doing the same w/ my Spyder.

I've long been a fan of MRs; Porsche 550 Spyders, 914s, Boxsters/Caymens.

Does anybody have any more tips to look for during my inspection & TD?

Thank you all, again!

Great Info, wish I'd read about 30 days ago!

Just bought a 2000 Spyder just at 100K, nice looking car, drove great and seemed to be in excellent condition. Even had it looked at by a local Toyota mechanic. I did notice that even after a oil change a week before, oil was a bit low and looked a bit dirty. Dealer did another change and I bought it. Bad decision, if I'd read this article a month ago I'd stayed far away from any vehicle powered by a 2000-2002 1ZZ motor. When checking oil over the last few weeks, it was always a qt low? and seem to be losing power. I put it in the shop and had a complete tune up (plugs were really oily) and the Valve cover gasket replaced. Seemed to run great for a few days, but power loss and oil burn returned and yesterday she died. Now I have beautiful MR2 being put on a rollback, for the 125 mile $$$ trip home, where I'll spend another 3-5 thousand on an engine replacement. After reading a lot on the 1zz in the last few weeks, I won't sink one more dollar into it. Oh well life lessons can be harsh:let_it_all_out:

Bummer. My Masters degree cost me a lot of money, but grateful for having invested in my education. :chuncky:

Maybe it's time for the 2zz upgrade?
