I have been following the 2005 spyders and now help determine value based on sales. People keep saying the prices are going up on low and below 100k mile Spyders. I have noticed a small increase in the 2005 but that could be artificial because I have drawn attention to that specific year. Not intentional but under 800 sold in the US and now my estimated 500 remaining should add some value to that year. We don't have very good discussions on Spyderchat but I thought I would throw it out and see what you think. So here is my Phantom Grey Pearl 2005 40k miles full option including limited slip and alarm system and now full TRD equipped with the stock mint condition wheels and new S drive tires. No paintwork ever and mint original condition. The lowest mileage highest option of the 23 2005 Phantom Grey cars sold in 2005. 14 were stick shift and only three have limited slip. Pretend it is for sale. What is it worth?

Would it be for sale as described, or as shown in the picture? What color is the top?

If as described, all stock at 40k miles - if you listed it at $18k I would not try to haggle at all.

With what I see in the photo, and assuming the top is red haartz cloth and not vinyl, then I'd most likely be fine with a higher price.

It's a beautiful car either way.

Since we're pretending... here's mine. It's admittedly not as nice as yours, and I just turned 120k miles on the odometer. It's widely known that I've driven it across the country twice in recent history.

Here's what's wrong with it:
  • 2016 - got rear ended by another small car at <5mph. Took bumper off and put it back on, it's straight but has a few scratches. I didn't feel replacing or repainting the bumper was worth the effort and cost because it's really that minor.
  • 2017 - got run over by a 4x4 while sitting at a stop sign. New OEM front bumper, driver side headlight, hood, driver side front quarter panel.

Here are the upgrades, all done in 2017 after the truck ran over me
  • LSD/Leather/5 speed manual. Only generic floor mats, sorry.
  • 3 programmed keys complete with remotes, all with fresh batteries.
  • Both volumes of the Big Green Book and the Electrical manual
  • Battle Version suspension arms/links front and rear, all five pieces.
  • Whiteline polyurethane bushings everywhere.
  • Phat's 1st gen mid brace. I have the 2nd gen waiting to be installed.
  • Dev's door braces and keyhole covers
  • Gas Struts on front and rear hoods.
  • DGR Coilovers w/ track kit 10k rear 8k front
  • AEM Cold Air Intake
  • Magnaflow 50 state legal midpipe and high flow cat
  • HKS cat-back exhaust
  • Haartz Stayfast cloth top, black
  • Non metallic 3M window film all around
  • Escort Max 360C head unit and ZR5 laser shifters
  • LED lights everywhere except headlights, those are Silverstar Somethingorothers recommended by Haloruler
  • Enkei M52 17x7.5 wheels in "Hyperblack" which amazingly looks silver and almost matches the car
  • Yokohama Advan Fleva 205/40R17 front, 215/40R17 rear
  • Factory tool kit and spare tire. All plastics are present and in excellent condition.
  • Wired NMO antenna mount suitable for Ham, GMRS, CB, whatever. Antenna and power comes out in dash cubby
  • Fitted, monogrammed 3 piece luggage set for the compartments behind the seats.
  • Mongrammed drawstring pouch that fits inside the spare tire's empty space.
  • Rebadged with the chicken logo on the steering wheel, soft top handle, hood and wheel center caps
  • All service records including every drop of fuel, where it was purchased and when. Oil and fluid changes in painstaking detail... super ridiculous that I've kept track of all this. Every. Little. Thing. In spreadsheet form.

You are probably in the ballpark, the top is red oem in good condition. You are consistant with current values of 2005 spyders in other colors with lower mileage. One red one just sold for 17k with 12k miles and original owner. Looks like $5,000 worth of original TRD parts add zero to the value of our cars which may be true.

Interesting considering original spyders have not broken 20k to date except crazy modified ones and a 2005 with under 100 miles.
I would see this as a realistic price given the rarity, etc. For me, it's reasonable to charge an extra premium to have a car that has the tonneau piece, or whatever you call that goes behind the seats and covers where the soft top would fold back. It looks really nice and you can't find it anymore.

As shown it has the roadster kit and a restored set of SSR Type C staggered wheels.

Stock 2005s with that mileage were getting 7500-9500. Now they are getting more so your is has nice mods and I would expect a sale in the range of 11-12k for your car. Color and accidents are a factor I would consider in the purchase although I like silver spyders. Title must be clean for that price. That would be my educated guess. As we are learning here mods don't add great value to our cars. My 05 has all the TRD stuff (est $5,000) and the restored staggered SSR type C would sell around $2,500 and don't really add to the value. I guess a rare car should be sold stock and original.

Yeah I wouldn't expect to get back the 7500 or so that I spent on mods.

I plan to be buried in this car....

Toyotafest in Long Beach CA only had a few spyders today. Looked like about 6 cars but it was a big event

I would think 18k-20k would be a good asking price, and if it (grey w red top) were exactly what what a person was looking for you'd get it. I think price is very dependent on what options you'd like when I comes to getting your money back on mods. The last car I bought had many of the mods I personally wanted and I knew most of them would he very difficult or nearly impossible to find. Always wanted the full Sportivo but it was discontinued before I even knew it existed, similar with the TRD header and quickshifter. I wouldn't say you'd ever get 5k back on TRD upgrades but I personally could see paying 2k more for the right upgrades. On the other hand a heavily modded/turbo car would probably turn me off since you never know what you're getting.

Hey, so you're in Long Beach? That's where I'm from, and in fact I drove there twice last year. I'm planning another trip for next year, so we should meet up. I met @hardmode while I was out there, he lives pretty close to Glendora Ridge/Azusa Canyon area.

It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
Truer words were never spoken.

Subjectively that car wouldn't be worth much more than any other Spyder as I'd only buy a car with the intent of driving the doors off of it. The few super low mileage Spyders are unfortunately going to suffer the standard classic car fate of becoming stationary artwork within the next few years.

I looked at your photo, and all I can say is, "Wow!" I love my Spyder, but it looks nothing like yours. Congrats.
