Wheels: 17" Advanti vs 15" Sparco

Sharing my wheel/tire combo. Both of these sets came with the car:

Black Advanti Storm Black = 17x8 +35 offset 205/40/R17 (square set-up)
Gold Sparco Trofeo = 15x6 195/50R15 16x6.5 205/45R16 (bigger'n the back)

Local roads are fairly beat-up. Suspension is stock, a bit aged but not horribly so.

Ride quality on the Advanti's is rough with regular rubbing from the front-left. I swapped to the Sparcos, the ride quality is significantly better. I don't have to crawl over speed bumps or live in fear of potholes.

Visually I thought I'd prefer the murdered-out look of the Advanti's. But the Sparcos have grown on me. I wouldn't have picked the color, but it works.

What do you think?

The black wheels would be the route I'd take.

I would take the route that does not beat you up and instill a fear of potholes.

I also looks like your 205s are having a hard time filling those 8" rims.

They are at that. Like pulling a sock over a watermelon. I'm sure plenty of people are running them, but 17x8 is just a little too much wheel for the front well.
Yeah, stretching the sidewall that far over is going to give you a very rough ride. I'm on 17x7.5's and the 205's they came with were a bit too narrow. 215/225 stagger works better and smooths it out a lot. Also helps to prevent rash if you accidentally graze a curb.

Yikes! Are those the bronze painted Trofeos, or have they been painted yellow? I mean just because trofeo is Italian for trophy doesn’t mean they have to be as shiny as an Oscar statue. 😂

They certainly don’t look that bright in the picture at Tire Rack. Heck, here’s a pic from Sparco’s website (OZ Racing).

Sparco says they’re “gloss bronze”, but even their brightest picture doesn’t look as yellow as yours.

Regardless, aside from being too bright for me, I like the Trofeo better, and I’m not just saying that because I almost bought a set. They also remind me of a spider web, which I embraced the idea of for a Spyder.

Hot take but IMHO I don't think 17s look great on these cars just because of how 'lowered' the car can be at the wheel well yet still looks like an offroader at the frame rails/undercarriage. In addition you'd need extensively purpose bought & adjusted suspension to make the ride quality jarring at best for city driving. Also, you rub at the front left because you're in the car....I'm sure with a passenger you'd rub at the front right during both turns & over bumps.

If the Advantis were 15" that would win by a landslide. However, the color of the Sparcos is extremely off-putting to me, especially on a black car. I'd put the Advantis on, paint the Sparco wheels bronze or gunmetal with a touch of metallic flake, paint the side vents color matched, & then sell those stretched wheels/tires to a wanna-be hot boii to cover the costs. The only shame is the rear wheels aren't also 15" which makes tire options more plentiful.

If you're putting it on all the way over the watermelons too you may have been doing it wrong?

Great advice all around. I hadn't thought about the stretched sidewall and tightness.

I'll have to dig out the paperwork to see if I have a paint description for the Trofeos. The paint quality is excellent, I'm sure they came bright and yellow like that from the factory. The PO hated that yellow and bought the black Advents.

I love bronze as a color, looks great with a black car and even better with a white one. One-of-these-days I may have to get them painted.

Of the 2 choices, I like the sparcos as well. And yes, i am old a prefer a smoother ride. Sell the advantis and paint the sparcos, with the black car, you could go whatever color you wanted. Though the bronze finished would look great. Good luck

16x7 +40 up front and 17x7 +40 in the rear.

The yellow doesn't do anything for me but I am old school and prefer natural aluminum for wheels. I also prefer 15" light wheels reducing unsprung weight, better ride and ability to absorb bad road surfaces.
