Hey folks, been lurking here for some time, but I thought I have some input on this.
As has been noted before, you can't just get driver's side parts and use it on the passenger side. Also, using the driver's side controller to control both windows won't work (and like in the rain in a drive-thru, there are times when you REALLY don't want both windows open).
If you are going to install controllers like the Autolocs mentioned in the Spydermagazine article, you should bypass the stock driver auto-down controls. Since they are both electronic, they could have issues with each other (just like someone already mentioned with their DEI setup). Basically, you just rewire the driver side so that it's the same as the passenger side. If the driver's side switch isn't compatible, just buy a passenger side switch and install it.
I had the Autoloc controllers in my MKII, and it is pretty easy to stop them part way. You do not lose any functionality with those controllers.
Most of those controllers will have two wires that will activate them up or down. You can hook these up to extended functions of an aftermarket alarm (as was mentioned with the DEI setup).
The original post was someone wanting to be able to just hit a button and have both windows go down or up. I had a four-door car that I installed window controllers on. With some diodes, I wired up a button that was hidden but easily accessible (it was hidden for appearances), and would close all of the windows at once. It made it a little easier just to pop that button when I was getting out to make sure all of the windows were closed. Something similar can be done if you install window controllers, and have a button to open both up at once.
With a controller like Autoloc, it will also be relatively straightforward to create a simple delay circuit that will automatically "vent" the windows. In other words, open the windows just an inch or so. This little circuit can be activated by a button installed in the car, or an alarm extension, or both. You could make one per side, or have a single circuit control both.
