You can delete and remove the soft top without damaging the frame.

This week I deleted my soft top and found that the difficulty is really over exaggerated. I don't think you can remove it without damaging the vinyl but you can separate the frame without cutting the arms off.

Once you have the entire contraption off you will find a pin on each side that is tack welded in and also a hex bit bolt welded in. I tried grinding the tack off the main pin but had no luck. What I ended up doing was drilling the outside of the pin with a 1/2" bit and the inside with a 3/4", this released the arms without damaging them. You have to be careful not to damage the mount by drilling straight but eventually the head of the pin will basically collapse. I'm confident I could make a new pin easily if they're not something Toyota sells. The tack on the hex bolt is easily grinded off with a dremel.

The main issue now is that the bolt that normally goes into the top hole of the mount isn't doing anything. You'll have to replace this bolt with a suitable short one that will hold the mount. I also found that once you remove the top it actually doesn't look half bad. There is a carpeted piece that covers most of the rear and two rubber pieces for the drains that covers the rest. It's not factory looking, but definitely livable.

I think the sentiment towards the deleted brackets is that a functional soft-top (good condition, hardware attached) is worth more to someone who intends to replace their soft-top, than it is to the guy willing to go 100% HT. No point in taking a grinder to a semi-decent vinyl top when there is plenty of hardware out there in tatters that only a HT guy would want.

Nice work either way. Is that a VIS HT with a lexan window?

It is! It takes some effort to get the parts needed but it's a completely different car with the hard top.. I actually used window weld to put the window in, but plan to switch to rubber well nuts when I replace the window. You gotta be extremely careful with the carbon top, it's definitely not for everyone. I wouldn't suggest it without a garage or you'll be waxing it every few days. I want to add a rubber lip to the back so when I set it down I won't damage it. Easily removable by one person though.

One reason the vinyl top wasn't recoverable for me is because it was the original and just opening it after not using it for a year shredded it, lol. I think if you really really wanted to, you could remove the soft top without damaging it, but you would need a lot of patience and a lot of time. It would probably help having experience with removing them as well.
