well, it is time to take my entire car apart...including: sideskirts, front bumper, back bumper, front panals, and rear panals.

i figure i will put the whole job on here, from start to finish. ill take as many pics as i can along the way.

the reason for this is to have one place i can go to for any advise, or questions. i have done most of this before, but on wrecked spyders that i could just bend or cut things that were in my way. i cant do this now, so i may run into some things, i dont know.

plus, i will give some people something else to follow....lol.

here are a couple of pics i took, i guess i will just add all pics to this first post to keep them all together.

here is the kit after i got it off...still looks great!

from the front

and the rear
Image

i figure i will point out how i took everything apart...help people in the future....

headlights removal..

two bolts in the top
Image

one bolt on the bottom back side
Image

then it is just a clip, pull forward and it will pop out.
Image

fender removal..all bolts are 10mm

bolt in front corner
Image

open door and there is another bolt at top
Image

under the plastic around bottom of windshild there is a bolt..plastic clip holds the plastic piece down
Image

under the car, by the tire, there are two bolts
Image

take the wheelwell plastic out by taking plastic clips out.
then you will see another plastic piece if you look inside the fender at the door. one plastic clip holds it in...take the plastic piece out, and you will see a bolt behind there.

Image

Image

Image

then there is one last bolt in the front corner
Image

you can take these out in any order you want

then you have this

Nice Paul. Seems like the kit had some fiberglass abused but nothing that couldn't be fixed. Can't wait to see once its all done!!![/b]
ya, it was whoever owned the car before truenofab...whoever did the body work, never need to try to work on fiberglass again...lol. people take there fibergalss parts to a bodyshop, and alot of times they dont know how to work on fiberglass, and just use bondo...bad,bad.

#78 ·
wow, thats awesome, I'm really jealous, I want to get a wide body kit sometime, but I would rather trade for it like you did, thats so cool, I can see it now...don't you have a hardtop coming to Paul?, You should get the insides of those wheels powder coated black, and also that rear end will look good with the holes filled!

#79 ·
Wow, looks like you've got some fiberglass work on your hands! As long as you're happy, I'm sure it will come out well in the end. Interested to see the front bumper evolution, that's my least favorite part of the kit as it stands.

Not that it would change your mind, but I like the rear vents. Kinda ricey...ok, ricey...but I like them anyway.

ya, hardtop should be hear anytime now.

i have been wanting a widebody kit too, there is just things that i dont like about just about every kit that i could get...this one was already messed up, so no big deal to cut it up and make it look like i want it too. just needed something to start with.

Looks like you got some work ahead of you. It should be really fun though. One thing I noticed...
Your tires are on backwards. You'll want to switch wheels from left to right.
Image
[/b]
lol, ya, i just threw them on for the pics. they are back off the car now. when i put them on for real, they will be right.

my friend came over to look at the car, i had put one front wheel on too, and i just grabbed one (of course it was the wrong one for the tread on the front too), and he noticed it also. i guess next time i just throw my wheels on, i had better make sure they are right..lol.

#85 ·
Some work to do, to have the kit 100% clean, but I'm confident in your capacities Paul !

Good luck for the work coming on, and please, let us see pics and pics anymore!

Regards.

Ben

I like watching projects like these come together. So I'll be following this thread for a while.

I am with you on those little rear vents, either make them functional or ditch 'em. Do those litle NACA ducts in front of the rear wheels flow air towards the brakes at all? Would be cool if you could get functional front and rear brake ducts.

Looking foward to seeing your finished product.

Oh and just wanted to say I appreciate your extensive pics and write-up on the fender removal. I am sure I will be using that knowledge soon, thanks for the effort!

Paul, what about replacing your AIC with a A2W? Then you could stuff two small heat exchangers in those brake duct holes. It'd be brilliant and wouldn't block your radiator. You gotta make use of the extra space.[/b]
i would love to have a2w, but i have no idea how it works, or how to set it up.

ya, and busy. he got me a real good start, i got to do stuff on my own now, that is the only way i can learn and know what to look for if something goes wrong. he will be doing my new tune after i get the built motor in and everything though.

after this last tune he did, nobody but him will touch the tune on my car!! it has passed anything i could have ever hoped for!!!
im watching fos thread about the intercooler, and learning. maybe one day i will understand the a2w enough to do the install.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but these are NOT welds, they snap off like a button, no need to drill them out. Looking good Paul, just want to save someone using this post as a reference so they don't make the same mistake.[/b]
actually I think there are 3 screws/bolt beneath (hidden from outside view) that one can just unscrew; hence dont need to drill these. well thats how the guys here removed the rear fender without drilling. i will try to get the pix & post it later (hope paul dont mind that i piggy on his thread)

from what I remember the MONOCRAFT kit has a extension piece for the filler neck... but if you guys remember the orange MONOCRAFT car that is in VA... I have seen and worked on the car (toy dealer) he just went and rig a peice of hose so that you can put gas on it but he did not have a gas cap and just a lid to close the gas fill

i think the Monocarft version 2 doesnt have that (well at least the Monocraft replicas dont). I do have a spare fuel pipe neck (from salvage MR-S) that i can take pix off.

The original monocraft with the alu cap had a piece of Samco tube and two clips to elongate the filler tube.

ok let me say this again about these welds. they are welded to a brace, the brace is bolted to the car with 2 bolts, the 2 bolts are very hard to get to without removing the softtop. i have aready took pics of these bolts and pointed them and the brace out.
