Why would you do this? Just use open lug nuts available from any auto parts store. It's a standard stud size.

 

Because the factory nuts use the large washer seat instead of a conical seat. He is looking for ones that will properly mount the stock wheels but are open ended.

Pretty much what funkycheeze said regarding the washer seat. Part of the lug goes into the wheel to center it as well.

It's called a shank style lug (although most shank lugs look semi different) vs the acorn style that 90% of the aftermarket and other manufacturers such as Mazda miatas use

 

I just cut the ends off of my OEM nuts.

 

I don't have the tools, space or coordination to do so. If I couldn't find anylopen ended, factory style lugs, next step was to take them to a machine shop.

I had a Celica that had the same lug nut style. One day,onee of them got jammed in a socket. I managed to get it out but the top part of it remained in the socket. Seems like the threaded nut portion has a cover wrapped around it to make it closed ended. I guess best comparison would be like a condom. Seems like it'd be a nightmare to try and remove all 16 of them unless I just go full torque with an impact gun and a spare stud.
