Yeah the top itself doesn't cost much.. but so far all the quotes I'm getting on labor are $1,000+ (labor only)

 

Not from what I understand. Probably part of the reason hardtops are $$$$. It looks like most people are successful but set aside 2 days of you have never done it before.

The second day is to find a couple of very strong friends who can help you stretch the new top into position.

 

I’m thinking the piece inside that flap could be replaced. However you’d have to remove the entire top, fabricate a new vinyl surround piece for the glass, then get it sewn to the top. Then glue the glass back to the top. Probably about 3x the labor of just replacing with a new top.

 

I did my soft top myself and was a complete newbie doing it. You need a rivet kit and some special toyota glue/silicone, but I managed it. Honestly, I won't lie it was a big PITA, but it is doable. Where there is a will, there is a way. Definitely, give yourself a few days and hopefully you have a garage to do this in. If not I definitely would pay someone. In fact, I probably would still pay to have it done rather than do it again. That's just me though.

I replaced mine and did NOT use either one. There is a metal strip that goes over the top in the back holding it in place. The rivets are not needed.

And it did take me 15 hours. It was a tough job but completely doable. There is a DVD with instructions.
