Premature wear?

The last time I put my car to my Toy garage I asked them to put a oil drain plug with a magnet. Last Saturday I've done a oil change before I go to a track day next Saturday and look at what I found on the magnet:

The engine has only 25000km (15500 miles), 2003 model and no pre-cat. The car is still under warranty.
Do you think it's an unusual wear?

Thanks!

honestly i don't feel that is alot of debris for a typical 4000-5000 mile oil change...

you also have to factor in what was sitting on th bottom of the oil pan when your oil was changed before you had the magnet. so some of that debris could be pre-magnet. Know what i'm saying?

anyways, i think your safe just look at the magnet next oilchange and see if the level of debris went down...i think it will.

Oddly enough, I also installed the magnetic sump plug on my last oil change. Thing is, the amount of crud shown in the photo above is more or less what you're hoping to find. The idea is to nab any casting bits that got loose in the system and never made it to the filter. What you're doing is clearing this stuff out before it can cause blockage or scoring.

I'll photo mine in about 3000 miles and we'll see what's what.

I read this quickly earlier but didn't respond. I concur with the idea that there may have been a larger amount of junk on the oil pan that couldn't drain properly before this. The magnet picked it up slowly as the oil circulated. I would think that in the next fill or possibly 2 if there's still remnant on the bottom of the pan that it'd be greatly reduced. If not, then I'd start to question things. Until then, just monitor it.

Thanks for your answers!
I was worried because on my other car I never got so much debris but I was using a magnet since the rebuilt of the engine.
Effectively that can be debris laying in the oil pan before I put the magnet, I will check the magnet in January just before the end of my warranty and will see if there is still so much debris.

Thanks again!

UPDATE:

Did my first oil change after installing the magnetic sump plug. Man, took me awhile to put 3,000 miles on!

Anyway, I was curious to see if picked anything up but no drama. Came out clean and zero shavings.

Probably the same as the Celica. Got mine off e-bay in the Spyder section, but it's one of those deals where the seller pimps the part across models if the part is identical.

The magnet, by the way, is really powerful - if there's anything floating around in there, this will extract it. Mine shipped with a metal washer, and on the oil change I swapped it for the regular soft gasket.

after the first oil change, did the magnet still have the same power? cheap magnets actually lose their magnetizm when exposed to higher temps (as in it goes away a little at a time, and the higher the temperature, the faster it goes away. we have a 350 degree F press at work that killed some cheap magnets in a matter of minutes...

Good question. I didn't do the same "pick up a pipe wrench" test I did when I unwrapped it, but when I finished unscrewing the plug and tried to pull it away from the pan, it snapped back onto the side of the pan with a "clang!" Regarding the oil filter wrap, those are popular with the Brit boys on mr2roc.com.
