If you are logging it and checking the logs after a run then that is good. The commander is nice, but I find it almost impossible to watch values on it when doing a spirited Canyon run - you pretty much need to be always watching the road. (Same with track really) Prosport makes a pretty cheap IAT gauge - worth glancing at anyhow.

Im glad you chimed back in, all my gauges so far are Prosport so if i go with a IAT it will defiantly be Prosport!

Considering were talking about IAT's, i have 2 quick questions....

1. as i am monitoring my IAT's what are some good parameters to stay between ? min and max?

2. since my kit didnt come with an inter cooler setup, i hope to add one in the future to not be strictly dependent on methanol
does your inter cooler setup seem compatible to route into my current kit?? just assuming you probably have a good idea how the
turbokits.com setup is

thanks again for the interest

It has already been since the fall meet since I have driven my Spyder, got a little low on oil on one of the runs and started knocking. Made it all the way home and tore it apart. At my current progress it will be the spring before its back on the road. Been having some hold ups that are mostly beyond my control.

I bought the complete swap out of the BD widebody car. Everything other than Trans and oil pan, which I have already got replacements. I am changing a few things along the way to make it more efficient IMO, whether it is or not is beyond me. Haha.

Ross, welcome to the club. It is truly amazing the difference in the car when it is boosted. Hope you are enjoying Cali.

I did a thread on my turbo 2zz build starting with a used TK.com 1zz kit. I did ATW intercooling and kept the meth/water injection. Measuring IATs after the intercooler and before meth injection I am typically only a couple of degrees above ambient temps. I still have some heat shields to build between the intercooler and exhaust, but in reality I have no issues without them even in the upper 90s this summer.

from there it was all vacuum lines and wiring and methanol injection

FYI......by the way those are not my settings for the meth injection

That intercooler is right next to the turbo. That intercooler must get super hot after a run. It's so close even wrapping it might not do much.

Your AIT readings won't be correct because you are only seeing the AIT before the Methanol. The actual AIT is going to be cooler.

Keeping in mind that it's a "street" build and in cool, moist Washington, my intercooler (A/A) is in the engine compartment also, but so far I haven't seen any differences in temperature via my temp guage, I know that's an inexact measurement, but I don't think I need more. If the temperature is 60ÂşF and the humidity 55% it is noticeably peppier than when it's 100ÂşF and 35% humidity, but other than that no apparent differences. One of the reasons I went there was to get it higher up, I didn't want it hanging down under the car. Another consideration was that Saab and Volvo have theirs sitting right on top of the engine in many cases and that seems to not be a problem.

I have had one heat soak issue after a hard run through a tight section on 90F day during the Razorback run in the late spring. We stopped to talk for about 20 minutes and when we started again my IAT was 107F before the MAF. They cooled back off to just above ambient within a few miles. Typically I am a around ambient. So it does not get very hot. Some heat shields will prevent the heat soak in those conditions. I am spraying meth after the MAF, so the actual charge temp is much cooler. I do plan on moving it this winter, but only to use a larger IC as I plan on running a local road course next year. Going to the style (but ATW) that dblazer is using placing it where the battery is today.

I just wanted to post a review of my wonderful experience with turbokits.com, i couldnt be happier with the support and customer service they offer with the product, Jesse and Matt especially were there to answer any questions i had and were a pleasure to work with!
If your mechanically inclined the install is pretty easy! I did it on jack stands in my apartment complex!
Welcome to the turbo club. Did your grin just get bigger? :biggrin-new:

Gawd but these cars move when boosted!

OKSpyder's set up being near the exhaust isn't optimal but retrofitting is easier than redoing the entire charge pipe set up. While I had methanol and a poor W/A set up it was more than enough. For the past 5 years I haven't run meth and on a 35C day I won't go past 43C and on the highway for extended periods of time 50C with spirited driving :black_eyed:

Having said that I still think an intercooler is necessary. I've run a meth set up with no intercooler and I've hit 100C on the highway after an hour. The heat is there and being in vacuum doesn't cool your intake.

Yea even after a couple weeks of permagrin, i dont like the thought in the back of my mind when my methanol light starts blinking to tell me its low.... the tank is still has about a 1/4 a tank left when it starts warning me......guess im paranoid about running out, as i should be!

So an intercooler setup will defiantly be my next addition along with IAT gauge so i can monitor it.....

Im thinking more toward a A2W setup atm with a heat exchanger hiding up front....but i have alot more research to do so i get it right the first time!!!

here are a few more pics i wanted to include

my gauges at night

should have an Nice update after this winter, plans are to add the LSD from MikeV and an intercooler setup, along with the moroso oil pan and who knows maybe a good set of 949 wheels, toyo R888, lotus diffuser(again) and maybe some coilovers and battle version control and trailing arms!!!

Not to mention some fresh paint since my co-worked decided to back into my car a couple weeks ago!!

Yay!! as always PM me for any help with a SMT - manual conversion, 1zz swaps, or turbokits.com installs !!!

Mateo Largo are you still alive>???

Very clean setup! The pics really help put things in perspective. Hmm wonder if the battery was relocated if the intercooler would
fit up there. Would see less heat there...

Is there a place for the duel O2 sensors in that manifold? If not were to put them?

Steve

We have done quite a few W2A setups right there. We have one designed for the TK.com kit now actually as well. Here is a recent one we did based on a TK.com manifold.

Nice work, looking forward to the next stage in your build. Let us know how we can help!

It would depend on your HP goals and end use, tuning, etc. FOr the 8 PSI the kit runs out of the box, the water/meth system was a very consistent way to keep heatsoak from robbing power. The manifold, if running the AEM FIC has 1 O2 port and we merge the signals in the PnP harness. If you are running PFC or AEM EMS it is not installed in the manifold. If you wanted O2 feedback, you could add it into one of the bungs in the exhaust piping.

Great pics and love the intercooler! I assume the I/C is custom?

Thought the stock ECU would though a code if they were merged, good to hear it dosn't! My goals are low 200's this year and
mid 3's next year after a rebuild. Would like the car to stay OBD2 legal for emissions, but then I know a guy that will pass it LOL..

The main thing is I don't want the car to be a PITA to drive, needs to start and drive like stock until the loud pedal is pushed.

Steve
It is a frozenboost intercooler core an we added the reservoir on to the outlet tank. All the piping you see is custom as well. The mount that holds it to the transmission is a standard part that we offer.

Shouldn't be an issue, over 10 PSI and you;ll want a fuel return system. Why not go with a PFC or AEM stand alone, a good tune will get you everything you want an much more easily support your power goals.
