well, it is time to take my entire car apart...including: sideskirts, front bumper, back bumper, front panals, and rear panals.

i figure i will put the whole job on here, from start to finish. ill take as many pics as i can along the way.

the reason for this is to have one place i can go to for any advise, or questions. i have done most of this before, but on wrecked spyders that i could just bend or cut things that were in my way. i cant do this now, so i may run into some things, i dont know.

plus, i will give some people something else to follow....lol.

here are a couple of pics i took, i guess i will just add all pics to this first post to keep them all together.

here is the kit after i got it off...still looks great!

from the front

and the rear

i figure i will point out how i took everything apart...help people in the future....

headlights removal..

two bolts in the top
Image

one bolt on the bottom back side
Image

then it is just a clip, pull forward and it will pop out.
Image

fender removal..all bolts are 10mm

bolt in front corner
Image

open door and there is another bolt at top
Image

under the plastic around bottom of windshild there is a bolt..plastic clip holds the plastic piece down
Image

under the car, by the tire, there are two bolts
Image

take the wheelwell plastic out by taking plastic clips out.
then you will see another plastic piece if you look inside the fender at the door. one plastic clip holds it in...take the plastic piece out, and you will see a bolt behind there.

Image

Image

Image

then there is one last bolt in the front corner
Image

you can take these out in any order you want

then you have this

lil' bastard ran off with the pics.

I think the Scion HU is a good route. I just put the Scion/Pioneer T1808 in my Spyder. Same one as in broudie's "How to" thread. The look is very OEM and therefore less tempting to thieves I would think. Well, it does say "Scion" on it, so it is not perfectly OEM. And I agree with broudie that there is a nice balance between the three-knob HU face and the three HVAC control knobs. It is satellite ready, of course. Finally, I'm no audiophile but it sounds GREAT to me.

ok, first the shifter, it is the trd short throw. i think the ball just makes it look longer. thanks to the SUPER GREAT klufkee, i have a cool trd knob on the way
Image
. dude, you are the best!!!!!

now, the stereo, i never listen to it, and i did not want to give anyone a reason to break in my car when it had the soft top on it, so i never changed it out. i may throw a little something in there now, for a upgraded look. I still have a long way to go on the inside of the car.

i am going to make a trip to h-town very soon![/b]
+1 million to that!

I paid a little more than I had to. You can get the the T1808 for $70-$90 depending on how the bidding is going. The T1806, the next step down the line, is much more common but controls the iPod, too. The $70 aftermarket cable works for both. I think mine came from a dealer or professional who swapped it out of a Scion to put in a GPS or something. It came with brand new screws, unused padding and what is called a "customer cable" for the iPod. Don't make the boneheaded mistake that I made, which is to think the Scion iPod "customer cable" (Part no. PT546-21062) will connect your iPod directly to your HU. Nope. It connects your iPod to a port in the Scion cabin, which is wired to the HU. I paid too much because I thought this was a complete solution for me. Just go for the HU and get then get aftermarket cable. But don't scarf up that cable until I get mine!

it will be awhile before i even look for one, that is WAY down on my list of stuff still to do![/b]
Good. Us poor people have a fighting chance of getting the parts we need for a while.

Can't believe I missed the pics until now.

WOW!!! I have never ever seen a car that looked this beautiful since boardernrs car. To me his car was leaps and bounds better then any other spyder there just didn't seem to be any way to even match it... You have blown me away with this paul. I've never really liked a widebody spyder either, they're always too flashy or something, almost like they are trying to look as different as possible. You really pulled off the "stockish" look as well, amazing. Keep the TRD spoiler it's perfect. Two tiny little things I would change 1) The shift knob as you already said and 2) Either get a cig lighter or one of Serina's plugs. I hate looking at that little hole. Everything though... Good lord I am just amazed at this car. I don't even really like the trial bumper normally and it just looks so amazing here. Same with the color red, it's nice but has never really looked good on a spyder IMO. Yet I wouldn't even take black or phantom gray pearl over red with this car. I'm 100% blown away. dman™™™ that's a nice car!!!

Oh yeah and it's most certainly NOT RICE!

P.S. I'm quite sure this IS the new standard in what perfect spyder is.

Paul where did you get those padded armrests for the door? Did you make them?[/b]
ya, i just took some thin padding, glued it to the plastic, the wrapped it. it is very easy to do. there is a write up on it somewhere on here.

thats a cool shift boot paul, i like the red stitching.[/b]
ya, i got it from lt site. it is really cool! it will look even better when i get the shift knob that fits it on there!!!!

2 things that i think really make the car stand out are....

the door seals by serina (i hope i am spelling that right). these things are just a really cool add on to the look of the car! people love them when they see them, and i get more talk about them than just about anything!

and (even though i have not got them yet), lt's kick plates! we all noticed the look of something missing behind the radio, this will fix that! i will take some good pics when i get them. and this just reminded me that i forgot to send him his money....crap!! i will send it tonight lt!!!

of course there are things from dev and greg and others, but thses two things just really are cool in my book!!!

A simple solution to the "It looks better in person" claim would be to start a cross-country Spyder driver relay. Make it a full circle and you won't even have to fly anywhere for the start and finish.

For all the "change this crowd", make "take a mod, leave a mod" an option for each driver. You should get back a perfect "designed by comittee" car.

i would do that, but i am ready to finish up with this, so i can start a new project (well on that got put on hold for this one).

plus, it would kill me with these gas prices

Get married and make a baby. That will keep you so busy that you won't have time to buy up the world's supply of parts, giving the rest of us a fighting chance in the market.

Paul is the sole reason we are now out of hard tops. He has like 3 stored in his shop just in case anything happens to his.
