Mounts

It seems that Innovative makes their K-swap mount kit with the front mount optional. Has anyone done the swap with the innovative front mount? Any thoughts about the need or benefits of using the front mount? Obviously Toyota thought that the 4th mount was a good idea!

RSX has this stock, but when using aftermarket mounts and swapping into older chassis like a civic or integra, not needed. The aftermarket mounts are a lot beefier.

Been doing kswaps for years now (gathering parts for my mr2 right now) and the front mount isn't necessary.

Innovative mounts

Does Innovative sell a front mount? I wish they could have designed it with a front mount and no rear mount, it would look a lot cleaner. Like many I am struggling a little to get the rear mount to line up. I think some of the problem is the passenger side is too low. I am installing a k20 from a RSX Type S, so I was expecting it to bolt right in without modifications. I raised the passenger side a ¼”, but it is not enough. I am going to install the axles and set it on the ground before I raise it another ¼”. I am a hesitant about about making this change, thinking they had a reason for not installing the engine level.

Innovative Mounts

Looked over all the mounts again, measured angles, and axle movement. It appears that the passenger side mount is too low and too far toward the driver’s side. The passenger side mount is not slotted like the other mounts and sets the position of the engine. The slotted driver side mount will easily allow the engine to move towards the passenger side. Moving the engine in this direction should also allow the rear mount to align better without having to hog out all of the holes. For those using the long factory stud on the front of the engine, passenger side, the hole in the Innovative mounting bracket is too small to allow it to set all the way down. The factory bolts that go into the transaxle are too long for the steel mount and you will need to add one or two washers. Check your parts early, half of the parts that I received were for other cars (but looked similar to the correct parts); it took six weeks to correct.

Yes which also reminds me,Justin ypu will need a crv engine block mount if you use the z3
Damn you. Now you've got me seriously considering the possibility of going the k24 route. 2zz motors are getting more expensive it seems. It's not a viable platform any more. I wonder how much my 2zz stuff is worth...

Honeslt for people like you and me who road race the 2zz is junk compared to a k series. You get so much more out of a na k series than a na 2zz. There will always be more k series than 2zz so the future prices will be less on a k

What transmission options are available that will work with these axles and a k motor? How do those transmissions handle road race abuse? Are there any transmission options for high power (500+) output?

I'm also considering a 2gr-fe. It works with a proven transmission, and I wouldn't have to explore new territory to get big power.

Or I can stick with the 2zz. Might be more expensive in the long run if I go through motors, and I will probably never realize 500+ whp with that motor.

What about running the trans from the z3?
I'm currently running the z3 tranny. No issues other than needing shifter mechanism from rsx. This was explained pages ago btw.

I forgot which company but they make a race sequential tranny with straight cut gears. Other than that a few company makes gears and such. Just check boosted sections on honda forums about what they are using for high hp.

Correct, I have a z3 trans in both cars. You will need a 02-04 type s shifter mechanism to reverse the direction of the shift cables in our favor. You will not need the vss sensor of speed sensing ring as long as you use the toyota speed sensing system. As far as trans option there are a ton of options. Rsx, accord, tsx, crv and civic all had manual transmission that will mount to the k blocks. There are different gears you can swap in and out for different ratios. Stock civic would not hold up to 500hp for a lifetime of beating. I have an account with syncrotech who makes updated parts for the trasmissions including carbon fiber synchros, this is what I run in my transmissions. You can also run crv gears and run the trans comfortably at 500 whp. I know alot of guys at higher hp are running truck gears. Also you can rebuild or swap parts from these transmissions in your garage. These arent like c56, c60 etc which require gear pullers. Once the trans is on the table you can do a complete rebuild from start to finish in 4 hours and have the car back on the road. Z3 is nice because it has a factory installed helical LSD but lsds are almist half the cost when compared to the c transmissions. I think the honda quaife is like 700 new

No gear pullers to dissemble a transmission? God, I love Honda. I can't find any "z3" transmissions on ebay motors searching for "k20z3 transmission" and "Honda z3 transmission." I only found ONE rebuilt for $1,600. How do I find this thing?

I think I'm sold. Instead of saving for a 2zz, I'll see about saving for a K24, swap kit, ECU, and header. I might just have to get a 2zz for now. School starts next fall, and summer is my last chance to drive at Laguna Seca for 3 more years or so. I guess what I do depends on how many pennies I can save by spring, and how much I might get by selling 2zz specific stuff.

FYI, accord and TSX transmissions have different cases (guts are the same though) and they will not work with the innovative kit
