My Power Steering Pump is running backwards?? Huge mystery . . .

Hi everybody,

My power steering was whining the other day, and eventually went out completely. So I disassembled the pump like I saw on these forums. Right down to the veins. I put it all back together and it is humming along nicely now, but seems to be running backwards -- meaning I am getting lots of suction from the high pressure side, and fluid is shooting out of the low pressure hose when I turn the wheel.

Did I reassemble this incorrectly? How could this be happening? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I purchased some Pentosin EHPS fluid for once I get it going correctly. But for now, it is kind of like anti-power steering.

Hi Joe . . . Research some more www.spydersearch.org to make certain pentosin is compatible. Somewhere in the back of my memory, I seem to recall that pentosin will cause the seals to swell and distort causing big problems. I think Cap Weir wrote about this. I could be wrong, so you will want to check . . . Just to make sure you have the right fluid for this car. Keep us posted and if you find the thread, please post a link here for when other people are researching similar issues.
