Hello,

New to the forum and MR2. Not to Toyota though owned Supras. Celicas and trucks.

I have a 2000 MR2 Spyder I picked up at auction (been looking for awhile) So I have no history other than it was a charity vehicle. Car is unmolested all original with 180,000 on it. The battery in the car was completely dead when I got it. The auction lot jumped it and I drove it home like that.

P/S light has been on and no power steering from the first time I inspected it. I inspected the pump assembly and it appears brand new, no build up on it and fluid is to level and very, very clean. I ran the scanner and it is throwing a C1523/23 also C1553/53. I know what the codes say but have no idea why it would over current. Could the C1553 be from the battery being toast?
I checked the relay, the fuses, the connectors, ohms check on the motor all looks good.
I left P8 unplugged accidentally and the motor pulsed on then off and sounded fine when it was running.

Thanks for any help, really looking forward to my new toy

Yes the car has a brand new Battery at this point.
I did erase the codes when I got home today and the C1553 did not return.
I am thinking about the obstruction comment. The car probably was sitting for a bit. Although the pump only turns on for maybe half a second before it pops the code.

Thanks for your responses
