Hey all, finally got my Turbo Kits dot com setup installed on my Spyder. Running their kit with 8lbs of boost we achieved 250.4hp and 217ftlbs torque. The car has been completely transformed and is so much fun to drive now.

Went with Power FC with Datalogit
(bit of a pain in the ass to link up to)
AEM’s Methanol Injection
First pull was 242 @ only 12/13 degrees advance at WOT so very conservative and safe. We’ll see how long my c60 lasts lol!

Very nice! Looking to try and blow mine up someday soon too, will keep an eye on your threads.

How does the water methanol system work? Do you have to keep restocking on methanol and change it constantly? One problem with the Spyder is where to put the intercooler and cutting up the rear bumper looks ugly and having it so close to the floor would destroy it on my roads. Also, when you build it how do you drive it to the tuner without it blowing up on you? Finally how much did you spent total? I'm estimating around 5k?

I'm pretty sure you just have to keep refilling it.

The water/meth works off of boost through a controller. I have mine set up to start spraying at 4psi and continue till around 15psi if by chance I have a momentary over boost. It’s an AEM system. It comes with 3 different nozzles for its injector, I’m using the middle size of the three. The reservoir is a little over a gallon size tank and I’m running SnowPerformance Boost Juice for my meth, it’s a 51/49% blend of water/meth. 4 gallons through Amazon is $50 shipped. Yes you do have to regularly fill the tank but it’s usage is entirely based on how often you’re in boost while driving. Theoretically if you stayed out of boost and your controller was set up like mine you’d hardly use any. I heard most peeps, again, depending on your driving, can see about 1k miles per gallon of meth. So yes, it’s an added expense but I believe the benefits are superior to an inter cooler for our application. The system comes with some fail safes as well that I have tied into the PFC that cut timing should there be and issue with either low system meth or other issues which would cause the system to not pump. You can Google the system I used and read more about it.

I was supplied a base map that I uploaded to get me to my tuner, who fortunately for me,was only about 5 miles from my home. What was important is that I installed a wide band O2 sensor, I only use one, to monitor my AFR’s while I was driving. The base map was pretty rich on fuel so there was no worry about blowing it up. I made sure NOT to get into boost while getting it there all while monitoring my AFR’s.

You are about correct on my cost for the system but add on the cost of a new stage 2 clutch and lightweight flywheel in my case, about $700 additional. Hope that answers your questions 😁

MAN!!! Love the set up! I’m going to follow your journey and learn from your post.

Thanks a lot for this info! The intercooler was always an issue with me because I dont want to cut up my rear bumper. Mr2s are so rare that its a shame to see them all gutted and riced out like track cars. I want to keep mine as clean and OEM as possible, but I want some performance upgrades, at least 220hp, coilovers, and if possible an LSD even if I stay with the 5 speed.

Thanks! Your build is really cool! 😎

Well now I’m gonna disappoint you lol! Down here in the south where I live it’s hotter than you know what. Engine bay temps in the summer are causing some pretty fast heat soak when I’m at lights or stop and go traffic. Coolant temps are in check but my AFR’s are definitely effected as they should be without much airflow. With that said, I’m installed an oils cooler with fan, removed my rain pan from the deck lid and (now the bad part) removed the rear lower bumper and added my own crash bar in an effort to evacuate as much hot air as I can. Next up in I’m gonna build some low profile air intakes to take in air from under the car and funnel it to exterior of the turbo and manifold.

did you consider using windshield washer fluid (-30F) for your water/methanol mix?

Some pics..
Omg haha that poor rear bumper. Oh well it still looks clean and really cool I can tell you spared no expense. The damn intercooler is such a problem, I saw a guy that had a iny one where the airbox used to be but Im not sure how effective it may be.

Also, I saw a guy on Youtube that replaced the MR2 radiator and man the factory one is as thin as a waffer! I think he got a Toyo or something similar, it was still slim but it was like 3 or 4 times the tickness than the factory one. This and an oil cooler are really good ideas.

Oh and if you remove the rain pan make sure you got the plastic cover over your engine valve cover because water could get into the spark plugs.

Good luck! :)

yes I considered it but for now just went with a known variable while I’m breaking everything in. More than likely I’m gonna mix my own when I run out of the BJ. 100% meth and distilled water, mixed 50/50 with a few drop of food coloring will be much cheaper next time around.

thanks! Yes I left my engine cover on the valve cover to protect in case of rain. Yeah like I mentioned, coolant temps don’t seem to be a problem and I’ve only had the rad fan come on a couple times with the needle never getting over the center mark.

Yea it’s hot in the south! I’m in central MS and I feel your pain! Where are ya in AL..? You have a nice set up.. But couldn’t you keep the bumper and just customize it to accommodate the cooling and exhaust?

I suppose I could have done with keeping the bumper stock but admittedly I like that open, kind of industrial look as it kinda shows off the inner workings of my set up. To each his own I suppose 😁

Would you share where to purchase turbo kit?

Hey all, finally got my Turbo Kits dot com setup installed on my Spyder. Running their kit with 8lbs of boost we achieved 250.4hp and 217ftlbs torque. The car has been completely transformed and is so much fun to drive now.

Went with Power FC with Datalogit

AEM’s Methanol Injection
First pull was 242 @ only 12/13 degrees advance at WOT so very conservative and safe. We’ll see how long my c60 lasts lol!
